Hey guys! If you’re anything like me, then this past year has been filled with endless sweats and messy hair! Quarantine has had me working from home and not caring as much about how I look, with my grown-out highlights and massive amounts of split ends I turned to rocking a messy bun...almost every day...
But I am soooo excited to share with you my messy bun tutorial! Now I am certainly no professional but this hairstyle is so easy and takes less than a minute!
This hairstyle also conveniently looks AMAZING in a Ponyback hat, check out the bottom of the blog post for a Ponyback style lookbook with messy buns.
Supplies:
- Hair ties or a scrunchie (sometimes thicker hair needs two elastic bands)
- Hairbrush (sometimes the bun looks good without needing to be brushed i.e. “messy bun”!)
Step 1:
First, you’re going to want to use your hands to put your hair up in a loose ponytail, but don’t put the elastic on yet. With your hands, you can get a more messy look instead of a sleek appearance that a brush often gives.
Step 2:
Start pulling your hair through the elastic, but stop halfway before you get to the end of your hair.
Step 3:
Twist the hair elastic once, then pull the top half of hair (section closest to your scalp) through the elastic but once again stopping halfway/closer to the end.
Step 4:
Repeat step 3 until your hair is tightly in place (sometimes you can end at three, all depends on your hair type!)
Step 5:
Gently pull the sides of the bun out to create a thicker fanned effect, and tuck any loose pieces into the elastic or bun.
Step 6:
Eh Voila! You have your very own messy bun! To complete the look pull some baby hairs out from just in front of your ears, and make sure to remember that no messy bun will look the same!
Step 5: [Optional]
Grab your Ponyback ponytail hat and open the magnetic back, gently pull the bun through the top and then place the hat on your head. Close the magnetic strips around the bun and then go rock your style!
Thank you lovelies for staying for this tutorial, I hoped that you all enjoyed it! Stay tuned for more hairstyles coming soon, and be sure to check out Ponyback on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest. Pre-orders for the next hat launch are coming soon!
